Are We Still Moving to Texas?

Are We Still Moving to Texas?

We’ve been getting this question a lot lately so I thought I’d take to the blog to answer… YES!! 100% we are still planning a move to Texas and here’s what’s going on behind the scenes…

1) We need to “finish” our house. When we bought our fixer upper log cabin, we planned on being here longer term and we’re slowly plugging away at renovation projects. It’s funny how we look at the house in a whole new light when we plan on getting it ready for sale. We have a few bigger projects to finish (the main bathroom, the roof, and the basement), as well as a bunch of the little projects that we just never finished! lol #renolife

2) Logistics! One can’t simply just up and move to a different country… well, I could but I’d like to be able to have the rest of my family join me! ;) I was able to get my US passport as proof of my US citizenship earlier this year and we are (Lord willing) going to apply for citizenship for Sophie and Simon soon. But it requires a.lot.of.paperwork! And original documents, and both parents being present, and appointments, and a trip to Calgary! And then there’s Shane! lol We still have to figure out what to do with him!

3) Timing is everything! While we totally get that there’s never a perfect time to move, we also recognize that there is a better time to move. We don’t want to be moving in the middle of an Alberta winter and we don’t really want to move to Texas in the middle of summer - us northern Canadians might actually melt!! LOL Summer is also the busiest, and easiest time for Shane to be building houses so we want to take advantage of that!

4) Baby, Baby, Baby, ohh…. Hopefully you caught our exciting announcement (here) that we’re adding a third child to our family. We, obviously, aren’t going to move to a different country while I’m pregnant - that might be a bit crazy, even for us! lol We plan on moving a few months after baby is born. It will still be a busy time but that is kinda how we do things!

With all that being said, our goal is to be in Texas by the early fall of this year - 2020! It gives us time to finish up our house, get our paperwork in order, take advantage of the busy work season, and adjust ourselves to a new climate, oh, and have another baby! ;)

If you’ve ever done a big move like this, help me out… what we should we be working on over the next few months?!

Until I Blog Again,

Alex
