Welcome to the Kolkman Cabin
““I don’t know if I’m horrified or intrigued!””
It's a bit of a fixer upper...
It's been a little over three years since this log cabin became home so I thought I'd take you on a trip down memory lane to where it all started...
I can honestly say that I love our cabin, and life in the country, but it wasn't love at first sight! In fact, my exact words when we saw the house were: "I don't know if I'm horrified or intrigued!" hahahaha I remember it so clearly...
We had been looking at homes for a LONG time. Ok, it was only about a month, but for me, that seemed like an eternity! I have always loved houses and couldn't wait to have my very own; especially after 6 years of renting and 7 moves! Add to that the fact that we'd already had a deal fall through (no thank you 15 year lease on half the land) and I was super keen to find a home.
From the moment we stepped inside, I knew there was something special about this house. It was definitely not like the other houses we had seen. Between the thick brown shag carpeting, heavy log walls, wood cabinetry, and the industrial black chain across the living room, it was a lot to take in!
I'll let you in on a little secret: I had always hated log homes! But now, I actually have a hard time picturing myself living in anything but.
... Here are the actual pictures from the real estate listing...
In the midst of living life in an ongoing reno, it can sometimes be hard to remember all the work you’ve already done. It’s getting harder and harder to remember what it looked like before and I do feel like we’re able to see the light at the end of the renovation tunnel! I promise I'll share the after pictures - well more like the current pictures - soon! For now though, let this serve, mostly as a reminder to myself, that we’ve made lots of progress and we’re in fact closer to the reno finish line than the starting line!
Until I blog again,
Alex
