My Very Favourite Christmas Tradition
I honestly can’t even believe that this will be our 4th, and most likely final, Christmas in our cabin. And the 4th year of my favourite family Christmas tradition - cutting down a tree from our property. I really don’t even remember how or why we started doing this, but I do know that I love it!
This last Sunday, like we’ve done all the previous years, we trekked out to the back 40 (so, we only have 3 acres, but that feels like the right expression) and made our selection. The kids had already gone “scouting” to find their favourite so we went with that one. It’s really not the most special process… We pick the tree, Shane cuts it down, he hauls it to the house, we shake it off, and haul it into the house and set it up. It’s not special, but it’s wonderful!
We got the tree right after we got home from church and got it ready for the full trimming process later that night- appetizers, music, cookies, and a Christmas movie. Shane and Simon had plans to clear the snow off of our ice rink and hang up the outdoor Christmas lights, and Sophie and I did some Christmas decor shopping on the way to her choir practice on the other side of the city. Y’all, it was just such a wonderful family day.
We managed to get most of the decorations on the tree before we snuggled in for our movie. There’s still some other fun little decorating projects around that house that we’re going to work on in the next little while and I’m getting pretty excited!
You can watch a little video I made of this favourite tradition of mine here… It’s actually my first ever YouTube video, and took Shane reminding me to actually publish it to make it happen! lol So enjoy ;)
Do you have a yearly Christmas tradition? If so, what is it and how long have you been doing it?!
Until I blog again,
