Sleeping With A Daddy Shirt
Yesterday, Shane got back from a long weekend motorbike trip with his dad and brothers and we're so happy to have him back! I'm sharing a little tidbit from our weekend and I'm not sure if this is sweet, or weird, or somewhere in between....
When my hubby is gone overnight, the kids (and me! 💁🏼) sleep with one of Shane's dirty shirts. It smells like him, and it's our way of keeping him close.
I actually remember doing this as a kid with my Dad's shirts when he would go away. And when Shane and I were fairly newly dating, and I went to stay with my dad for an extended visit, I took along one of Shane's shirts. Smells evoke so many memories for me so it doesn't surprise me that this has always been comforting to me, and now my kiddies.
This weekend, I narrowly dodged an epic #momfail.... In a rare and surprising turn of events, I had managed to catch up almost entirely on the laundry. So when it came time to grab one of those dirty daddy shirts, I actually didn't have any!!! I managed to find two in Shane's dirty work laundry so each of the kids got their very own sweaty, sawdusty daddy work shirt to sleep with!
Apart from bringing the sawdust into my freshly washed bed sheets, I actually don't mind (am really quite fond of) the post work aroma... Sweat and sawdust, it's a pretty amazing combination in my books! Somebody somewhere should bottle this; women would swoon! Or is it just me...?!?
I'm always looking for tips to easy the pains of missing daddy when he is gone... If anyone has any, I'd love to hear 'em!
